So when you come home and see brown patches, what do you do? The first step needs to be to identify the problem so you can solve it. Let’s go over some of the most common problems of why your grass might not be green.
Is it the lawnmower’s fault?
A lot of times it is always easier to blame someone else, or in this case something else. Firstly, your lawnmower could have dull blades. If your grass has a gray to brown tint after you mow this is a good sign that your blades need to be sharpened or replaced. Secondly, your lawnmower could be scalping the grass. This is common when you mow the opposite of the direction your grass is growing on hills or terraces. Thirdly, your lawnmower could be doing the same pattern. Make sure you mix it up to avoid always going the same exact path as this causes ridges in your grass.
Is it your fault?
To not have green grass is probably enough of a hit, the last thing we wanna think is that it could be all fault. Firstly, think about how many times you mow. If you are cutting more than 1/3 of the blade when you are mowing you are cutting too much. Secondly, if you have let it go and then try and mow it multiple times back to back. Again, see the 1/3 of the blade. If you take your grass from tall to extremely short it is going to hurt the grass. Thirdly, how short you are cutting it can really be a factor. You should never cut your grass too short because that can lead to the grass not being able to get the food it needs.
